During the reign of empress Marie Theresa the Jesuit order was abolished. At that time Klementinum was their primary cloister holding beyond its walls an abundance of various treasures. When they were expelled from the country they could not bear the treasure with them so they decided to wall it into one of the underground basements. This deed had to be done in secret so one day the monks brought in a blindfolded bricklayer to do the job. They
removed the scarf from his eyes once they reached the chosen alcove filled to the top with iron chests. The mason provided his work and was then walked back up with his eyes covered once again. On their way up the Klementinum bells began to toll and the mason recognized them for he helped build them years ago. He couldn't remember in which alcove he had lay the bricks in and so the Jesuit treasure remains safely walled in till this day.
