This beautiful coffeehouse in Art Nouveau style is one of the most famous establishments in Prague. It was built in 1914 by Jan Benedikt. The coffeehouse has an extraordinarily elaborated interior designed by Doctor Jan Beneš in cooperation with Professor Josef Drahoňovský and his students. After World War II, the coffeehouse was closed by the Communists and
was sometimes used for shooting film scenes. Today, the coffeehouse offers quality jazz concerts several times a week. There is also a special tradition – if you spend 1,943.00 CZK for a plate of donuts, then you can throw the donuts on the guests around you. This tradition is based on a scene from a book titled Saturnin (1943) written by Zdeněk Jirotka.
