Lesser Town
Lesser Town has become one of the most interesting Prague quarters.
The Lesser Town area was inhabited as early as in the 10th century, when it became part of the Prague Castle outer bailey. In 1257, Lesser Town became a city in virtue of the decision of Přemysl Otakar the Second.
In 1541, Lesser Town was almost destroyed by a great fire, which also affected the Prague Castle.
Then, during the Renaissance and Baroque, new development of the quarter followed. Lesser Town was later a favourite place of residence for the aristocracy and so many aristocratic palaces have been built.
Today, Lesser Town is an affluent neighborhood, which somewhat differs from other neighbourhoods ( thanks to the green Petřín Hill), and it is one the most popular places.
