Mordecai Maisel
He was a Jewish rabbi and contributed to the architectural development of the Jewish town.
In his youth he experienced the persecution of the Jewish community by order of Ferdinand I. His family was forced to leave Prague, but Mordecai soon returned with a great fortune, which he even used to support
the Habsburgs in their war against the Turks. He also launched the construction of a great architectural gem for the Jewish community. In 1950 he built the Maisel Synagogue, which ranks among the gems of that era’s architecture. He was one of the greatest intellectuals of the Jewish community.
