Jan Rohac of Duba
He was a Hussite Captain of the people, renowned for having led the defense at the Sion castle, which was the last remaining post of the radical Hussites.
He came from an impoverished noble family and he rallied round the orphans, a radical Hussite branch. After the fratricide battle of Lipany he took refuge in Hradec Kralove,
but soon left it and joined the resistance against the newly elected Sigismund of Luxemburg. He was besieged in his castle in Sion, which was captured in 1437. Jan Rohac was later executed with his faithful supporters.
In 1947, the movie director Borsky immortalized the last battle of Rohac in the movie “Jan Roháč z Dubé”.
