About the restaurant U Pinkasů
U Pinkasů was the first restaurant in Prague to serve Pilsner Urquell on tap and already did so in 1843. Many prominent figures of our history were among the restaurant’s regulars. Masters Voskovec and Werich came here to quench their thirst, as did Jaroslav Jezek, the actors Zdenek Stepanek and Ladislav Pesek, and the writer Bohumil Hrabal. Much has been discussed in our country over a dewy pint of beer: happy matters,
memories of the “good old days”, or serious debates of social and national significance. The restaurant U Pinkasů became, as early as in the second half of the 19th century, the center of Czech nationalism, where eminent politicians and other significant characters of our history such as Frantisek Palacky, Frantisek Ladislav Rieger, Josef Jungmann, T.G. Masaryk, Jan Masaryk, and many others came to wet their beaks.
