Wenzel Lorenz Reiner
Reiner’s specialty was mural painting, which brought him quite an exclusive position within the Czech milieu. As was the case with the painter Petr Brandl, he never undertook any study trip outside of Bohemia, but still managed to raise the until then neglected field of fresco painting to European standards. He related to the
tradition of local Baroque painting, in particular following the example of Karel Skreta. He created a very original style, typical for its lifelike materiality and its realistic earthiness. Reiner’s ceiling frescos can be admired in various churches in Prague and utterly contribute to the unique Baroque atmosphere of Prague.
