Alphonse Mucha
Similarly to numerous Central European artists, Alphonse Mucha went to the Mecca of art – Paris. From 1887 on, he took part in the creation of an international Art Nouveau movement. His work for the theater of actress Sarah Bernhard, for whom he created several posters, brought him international fame. His posters’ visual style completely overtook several
areas of Paris. After returning to Prague in 1910 he received many significant commissions in his own country, one of the most prominent being the decorative ceiling mural of the Mayor’s Hall in the Municipal House. He remains to this day synonymous to Art Nouveau style and his work, particularly his posters, are still exceptionally popular.
