Pavel Janák
Since 1911 he counted among the pioneers in Cubist architecture. Later his conception evolved to Purism and Functionalism. He was one of the architects invited to contribute to the project of Functionalist villas in the famous Baba neighborhood. In 1936 he took over the position of architect of the Prague Castle from the architect Joze Plecnik.
He contributed to a significant extent to the reconstruction of numerous structures in the castle precinct, in particular in the Ball Game Hall and the Riding School. When working on reconstructions he primarily tried to ensure that the newly added elements wouldn’t be obtrusive but that they would feel natural, while still modern.
