Josef Schulz
He was the younger collaborator of the architect Josef Zitek and one of the main protagonists of the transformation of Prague’s architecture in the 19th century. Just as Zitek, he based his creations on Neo-Renaissance principles. After the fire that partially destroyed the uncompleted National Theater in 1881, he led its reconstruction and completion.
He also collaborated with Zitek on the construction of the House of artists – the Rudolfinum. Schulz was the sole architect of the Museum of Applied Arts, but his greatest solo project was the monumental National Museum, which impressive architecture gave an inherent dominant feature to the Wenceslas Square in the late 19th century.
