Nový Svět
* *This picturesque location is called "Nový Svět" (New World) because it used to be situated outside the Hradčany territory founded around 1320. People started to move there in 1360 when it was incorporated into the new fortifications. The street called Nový Svět follows the original road along the Brusnice Brook. This road used to lead to the village of Střešovice. In 1420, during the Hussite wars, and also in 1541
the development was hindered by fires. Today the Nový Svět is one of the most peaceful and picturesque spots in Prague. A number of historical houses, which were popular with artists, are preserved. One of such houses was the residence of famous astronomer Tycho de Brahe, who worked at the Imperial Court of Rudolf the Second. There is a preserved wooden house, unique inside the historical centre of Prague.
