Prague Castle Painting Art Gallery
The permanent exhibition of the Prague Castle Art Gallery offers to the visitors a wide variety of more than one-hundred paintings from the Prague Castle fund, which owns about 4,000 paintings. Despite the huge losses suffered over the centuries, the Art Gallery competes with the most renowned European artistic collections. The roots of the Gallery go back to the end of the 16th century, when Emperor Rudolf the Second put together the largest collection of artwork
of that time. Today, the Gallery has in its possession only a fragment of what used to be Rudolf´s fabulous collection.
The new collection from the 17th century contains artwork of renowned Italian, German, Dutch, Flemish and other masters. Together with the paintings of Czech Baroque painters that were bought in the thirties of the 20th century from the Masaryk Fund, the Art Gallery is open to the public following many modifications and renovation.
