Preserved as a national monument, this well-known cemetery came into use when the plague broke out in Prague from 1715 to 1716. By 1786, Lord Joseph II forbad burials within the city limits and thus this cemetery was opened for the public. The cemetery
contains many exceptional gravestones sculpted by the Malínští brothers and I. F. Platzer. The gravestone belonging to Josef Janoušek is likewise noteworthy, as it was designed by the famous architect Jan Kotěra and the sculptor Jan Štursa.
