Built 1755-56, the palace was apparently built according to Anselm Lurag’s design on the site of several Renaissance houses formerly owned by Count Goltz. The new owner, Count Kinský, enlarged the palace at the beginning of the 19th century with a back wing. The main façade is divided into two buttresses with triangular coats-of-arms adorning the sculptures produced in the workshop of the sculptor
František Platzer. In addition, an ornamental plaster design which dates from the turn of the late Baroque/Rococo decorates the façade.
The first person who was awarded the Nobel Prize, Berta Suttnerová-Kinská, was born in the palace in 1843. During
the 19th century, the palace served as the German High School, one of whose students was Franz Kakfa who was eventually famous the world over.
