This gothic house on the corner of Charles Square is definitively one of the most mysterious in Prague, often changing owners and having been rebuilt multiple times. The current appearance of the house dates to its Baroque reconstruction, carried out ca. 1720 by the architect František Maxmilián Kaňka. The dark story associated with the house originates with the alchemist and charlatan Edward Kelly who bought the house in 1590. He only lived there
for a short time, because he was soon arrested by the Emperor for various reasons and was subsequently imprisoned at Křivoklát Castle. In the 18th century, Count Ferdinand Antonín Mladota from Solopysky lived in the house. His great passion for science and his various attempts at chemistry and physics gave him the reputation of a dark individual. People at the time feared him greatly and thus Mladota was considered a servant of Lucifer himself.
