Church of St. Stephen
The church of St. Stephen New Town was originally the parish church of the upper New Town between 1351 and 1400. Some extensions, sacristies, chapels and a Neo-Gothic hallway are from a later period. The Neo-Gothic reconstruction was finished in 1879 and it was supervised by architect Josef Mocker. The
interior of the church is Gothic style and its furnishing mostly in an early Baroque style from the 17th century. The most important sculptor of Czech Baroque named Matyáš Bernard Braun was buried here in 1738. In place of an old plague cemetery, closed in 1784, stands now a late Gothic bell tower.
