The monument of the best known Hussite commander Jan Žižka of Trocnov stands symbolically at the top of the hill Vítkov, where under Žižka's leadership the Hussites defeated the crusaders army in 1420. The author of the monument is sculptor Bohumil Kafka who worked on it 10 years
from 1931. The ceremonial unveiling was thwarted by the Nazi. The unveiling finally took place in 1950 but the sculptor was no longer alive. The monument has impressive dimensions, for instance, its height including the pedestal is 22 meters and its weight is over 16 tons.
