House at the Violins
This house was erected in the Middle Ages and later reconstructed in the Baroque style. It is named after tits house sign “At the Three Violins.” The widow of a violin maker, Barbora Ottová, lived in the house from 1667 onwards and the house then passed to her son-in-law Leonard Pradter. He made his living by crafting string instruments for musicians at the well-known Loreta Church.
However it was the Edlingers that brought the house its greatest fame. This family also made its living by crafting musical instruments and their reknown reached far beyond the Czech lands. This family also erected the famous house sign recalling the violin makers who lived in the house. According to a certain legend, skeletons play the violins each time there is a full moon.
