Čertovka
*Starting from the Lesser Town, the island of Kampa separates an artificially created shoulder from the Vltava River. Since the 16th century, the water canal was called "Rožmberská Strouha" (Rožmberk Drain) after the landowner named Vilém of Rožmberk. Today's name Čertovka
comes from the building called "U Sedmi Čertů" (Seven Devils). From medieval times, the channel was used as water drive for mills, saws and hammer mills, which used to stand on its banks. A unique large wooden water wheels have been preserved until today.
