The house was built in 1414 for the private use of Václav from Radeč. He was capitular and builder of the St. Vitus Cathedral. The house is one of the first built in Gothic style on Hradčanské Square. It was originally designed as an isolated courtyard with a residential wing and a tower, the remains of which are noticeable in the corner of the building to this day. The smaller house entrance tower was very unusual. In part of the courtyard was also the Chapel of the Assumption of the Virgin. Today´s aspect of the house is
the result of a Baroque reconstruction done in the middle of the 18th century. The facade is dominated by the portrait of Jan Nepomucký, who supposedly lived here when working in office as Chief Vicar in the days of Archbishop Jan of Jenštejn. However, an undeniable tenant of the house was the writer Jiří Mucha, son of the painter Alfons Mucha, he used the house from 1950. Many parties were given to Prague intellectuals and Czech artists alike which led to speculations and stories as to what went on during those evenings.
