Aside from other of his curious interests, Emperor Rudolf the Second, a collector and benefactor of art, was also a passionate lover and collector of horses. To satisfy his passion, he didn´t mind having part of the fortifications knocked down as well as an old vicarage and around the year
of 1583 he ordered for a new beautiful horse stable to be built. The horse stable was vaulted with a cylindrical vault including cutouts and it has false latticework.
These days, this beautiful horse stable is used for exhibition purposes and regular temporary exhibits are held here.
