The modern Functionalist-style building of the National Technical Museum was built at Letná Park between 1938 and 1941 following architect Milan Babušek´s project. However, the building was used as a museum only after the war had ended. The function of the museum follows the historical movement of the "Jednota pro Povzbuzení Průmyslu v Čechách" (Union for Industrial Support in Bohemia), which was founded in 1833. For educational purposes, a collection of various machines and instruments
was put together, which was accessible to all individuals interested in education. The first publicly accessible technical museum was founded by Vojta Náprstek using machines imported mainly from the USA and England. Among the unique exhibits of the museum, there is a replica of a mine in the basement of the building – The mining exhibition was installed in 1953 as well as the armour-plated limousine of Reinhard Heydrich, the German Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia Protectorate.
