Building u Černé Matky Boží
* *Following architect Josef Gočár´s plans, a businessperson from Prague, František Josef Herbst, had this cubist house which was a department store, built between 1911 and 1912 at the corner of Celetná Street and Ovocný Trh. The building was named after a Baroque sculpture of the Virgin Mary that was embedded into the corner of the building behind golden bars. The Cubist
design of the structure, the first in Prague, is well documented, not only for its façade boasting a massive entrance portal but also for all its architectonic details inside. Currently the building houses the Museum of Czech Cubism. There is, on the first floor, the unique Grand Café Orient, a perfect replica of an original Cubist coffeehouse well worth a visit.
