Czech Estates Theatre
* *The construction of a new theatre was initiated by Count František Antonín Nostic-Rieneck, Enlightened aristocrat. The opening ceremony took place in 1783 featuring a play called Emilia Galotti by Lessing. Nevertheless, the theatre will always be connected to October 29th 1787 and its world premiere of the opera Don Giovanni by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which was dedicated to the people of Prague. The audience enthusiastic welcome inspired Mozart's words: "My People of Prague
Understand Me!" Moreover, in 1834, the song "Kde Domov Můj" (Where My Motherland Is) was played here for the first time in Josef Kajetán Tyl´s play called Fidlovačka, which later became our national anthem. The architectural design of the theatre has its roots in the Classicism of French tune and is the work of court builder Antonín Haffenecker. Movie director Miloš Forman used the uniquely preserved space of the theatre to shoot some scenes of the famous movie Amadeus.
