Church of the Assumption of the Virgin
*During King Přemysl Otakar the Second´s reign, after the 1258 fire, the original Romanesque basilica of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary was converted into a Gothic edifice. At the same time, a chapel was added to the northern side of the church nave, originally consecrated to St. Voršila, now to St. Norbert. Another reconstruction came because of damage done by the Hussites in the 15th century. The Renaissance reconstruction
of the temple was supervised by Kašpar Questenberg, who ordered the extension of the Basilica as well as the completion of its new facade. Today's Baroque style is the work of Italian architect Anselmo Lurag. He supervised the reconstruction after the church was hit during the French bombing of Prague in 1742. Inside, there is a powerful organ dating from 1746 on which Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played while visiting Prague.
