Church of Our Lady before Týn
* *The two Gothic towers, both part of the church of Our Lady before Týn, form one of the dominant features of the Old Town Square and indeed the whole of Prague. The construction of a triple-nave basilica began approximately in the middle of the 14th century, and for centuries it has been one of the best known and most beautiful sacred buildings in Prague. With their extraordinary artistic quality the decorations of the side portal on the north side of the church belong to
the best of Gothic art. At the end of the 17th century, the interior of the church underwent light Baroque modifications. The main altar with a painting of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary was made by Karel Škréta and the sculptures by Jiří Bendl, both in Baroque style. Many important personalities are buried in the tomb walls of the church, they are dominated by the gravestone made by world-famous astrologer Tycho de Brahe, who worked for Emperor Rudolf the Second.
